
An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Monday, remanded a 25-year-old man, Sanfullahi Nasiru, in a correctional centre for the alleged abduction and rape of a 16-year old girl.
The police prosecutor, Insp. Olubu Apata told the court that Nasiru committed the offences between August 2021 and January in Ado-Ekiti and Zamfara.
He said the defendant met the victim at her parents’ shop in Ado-Ekiti where she complained of having headaches.
Apata said the defendant gave her a substance mixed with a soft drink which she drank.
The prosecutor further said the victim developed an affection for the defendant after drinking the substance.
“Without her parents’ knowledge, he took her away to a village in Zamfara where she stayed with him for some time.

“Attempts by the victim’s mother to take her back to Ado-Ekiti were resisted by the defendant, if not for the intervention of the court,” he said.
Apata further stated that Nasiru was arrested when he returned to Ado-Ekiti to threaten the victim’s mother.
Four in court over illegal electricity connection
According to him, the offences contravene Section 361 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012 and Section 31 of Child Right Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant to the correctional centre pending the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Meanwhile, the defendant’s plea was not taken.

Chief Magistrate Bankole Oluwasanmi ordered the remand of the defendant at the correctional centre, pending the issuance of legal advice.
He adjourned the case to May 23 for mention.
