I‘m Lawan senior in National Assembly – Machina

All Progressives Congress candidate for Yobe north senatorial district, Bashir Machina has insisted that he is not going to step down for Senate President Ahmad Lawan saying he has been in the National Assembly before the latter.

Machina, who featured on Channel Television yesternight disclosed that he became a member of House of Representatives in 1992 ahead of Lawan noting that he has the requisite experience to represent his constituency in the Upper Chamber.

He, however, dismissed the insinuation in the political space that he is no more in the race even as he revealed that he did not fill the withdrawal form.

“I am still in the race. The Electoral Acts is very clear as to how someone can become a candidate of a party. I participated in the primary election, and I won with 289 votes with 11 invalid votes.

“Yes, I did not fill the withdrawal form because I knew that was not in my agenda.

“The party officials, INEC officials were on ground to conduct the election as prescribed by the law. So, having gone through this electoral process how will somebody be talking about stepping down? This is not possible”.

When asked whether he has the support of the State Governor Buni and APC presidential candidate, he answered in the affirmative.

“Of course, everybody contesting for an election will have the support of the governor. Yes, I have the support of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu”, he disclosed.

It would be recalled that Lawan has been representing Yobe north at the senatorial district since 2007.
