Road Accident: 6 die in Bauchi

A fatal Road crash involving 18 people has left six people dead. The accident occurred on Thursday, along Darazo-Dukku highway in Bauchi state.

The fatal crash involved two vehicles, a commercial vehicle, a Volkswagen Bus with registration number: KTG-950ZZ driven by one Ahmad Umar, and a Peugeot Saloon with registration number: AKK-53CB noting that the name of the driver is unknown.

Confirming the accident, Sector Commander, FRSC, Bauchi State, Corp Commander Yusuf Abdullahi, explained that the crash was caused by over-speeding.

He said that the accident involved 18 people, 12 Male Adults, 4 Female Adults, and 2 Female Children.

“Immediately we got a distress call, our men from there rushed to the scene of the crash within some few minutes for the rescue operation.

“When they got there, they evacuated the victims to the Darazo General Hospital for medical attention.

“It was at the hospital that six people, 5 Male Adults, and 1 Female Adult were confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

“Eight other passengers, made up of 5 Male Adults and 3 Female Adults, sustained varying degrees of injuries. The Police Motor Transport Division in Darazo were also informed,” he stated.

According to him, the remaining 4 passengers escaped unhurt.

He said that the corpses were deposited at the Darazo General Hospital mortuary and would immediately be released to the relatives of the deceased for burial.

He added that the obstructions on the road were cleared for other road users to have easy passage while 9 mobile phones and N20,590 cash were recovered at the scene of the crash.

He warned drivers to drive with more caution and within the recommended speed limit especially during this rainy season so that lives and properties would be saved from destruction.
