No terrorist attack at Asaba Airport, security drill conducted, says police

The Police have dismissed reports of a terrorist attack at the Asaba International Airport, Delta State, clarifying that the security activities witnessed at the facility were part of a planned simulation exercise.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Airport Police Command, ASP Mohammed Adeola.

According to the statement, the exercise was conducted on Thursday, September 10, 2026, by the Office of the National Security Adviser to assess and strengthen the preparedness of security and emergency-response agencies.

The Police said the exercise involved the deployment of security personnel and other relevant stakeholders to recreate a simulated security incident within the airport environment.

It said the exercise was designed to test existing response mechanisms, communication channels, command and control structures, as well as the ability of participating agencies to respond effectively to potential security emergencies.

The Command stressed that the exercise was authorised and controlled, urging members of the public not to mistake it for an actual terrorist attack or security breach.

“The Airport Police Command wishes to clarify that there was no terrorist attack or security breach at the Asaba International Airport,” the statement said.

The Police urged travellers and other airport users to disregard the reports circulating on social media and other platforms, warning that the spread of unverified information could cause unnecessary fear and panic.

The Command reassured the public that the security situation at the airport remained under control, adding that security agencies were maintaining vigilance to protect passengers, airport personnel, facilities and other stakeholders.

It also urged members of the public to rely on information from authorised government and security agencies and support efforts to strengthen national security preparedness and protect critical airport infrastructure.
