PIB: Reps jettison Senate conference report, step down harmonization

By Kassim Omomia
The House of Representatives has disagreed with the senate conference reports which insisted and approved 3% for host communities.

The lawmakers, however, declined approving the harmonised version and stepped it down after a closed executive session.

Recall that the House had canvassed 5% during consideration of the Bill while the Senate passed 3% which it insisted at the conference committee.

This position did not go down well with the House members who opposed the senate position in a rowdy session at plenary.

Speaker of the House, Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila made the announcement on the floor but could not give further reason for the house decision.

According to the Speaker, in his remarks ending plenary session, noted that only the House committees on Finance and Defence will be allowed to meet.

Meanwhile, the Senate did not shift grounds, maintaining the same position on the harmonization committee report.
