Sowore offers legal support to DJ Chicken

Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, on Monday offered to support popular social media personality DJ Chicken in his legal battle.

Sowore stressed that the charges against the entertainer are excessive, criticising what he alleged was the continued prosecution of young Nigerians by the Federal Government.

In a post on his X handle, Sowore appealed to anyone with access to DJ Chicken’s family or relatives to contact him, saying he was willing to advocate for the social media personality and assist in challenging the charges filed against him.

Sowore alleged that the Nigeria Police Force had brought what he described as burdensome charges against DJ Chicken, while accusing the authorities of increasingly deploying prosecutorial powers against young Nigerians under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

According to him, DJ Chicken should not be kept in custody, insisting that he was entitled to his liberty under the law and did not deserve to spend time in prison.

The activist further argued that Nigerian youths required opportunities, mentorship and access to justice rather than what he described as persecution and prolonged incarceration.

Sowore also made allegations against Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, claiming that he, rather than young Nigerians facing prosecution, should be the subject of criminal investigation and imprisonment. He did not provide evidence to support the allegations in his post.

He concluded the statement by reiterating his “Revolution NOW” campaign slogan.

Recall that the DJ was arrested in connection to a video he recently shared in which he made remarks about the President’s son.
