President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for transforming the culture of project delivery in Abuja, saying his administration has ended the era of abandoned projects and delayed execution.
The President gave the commendation on Wednesday during the commissioning of the full scope development of Akinwumi Ajibola Street in Gaduwa District, Abuja.
Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu praised Wike’s commitment to delivering infrastructure projects across the FCT.
Addressing the minister, Tinubu said Wike had “changed the culture of delivery in the FCT” by ending “the era of mobilisation without movement” and shifting attention beyond major highways to inner roads, districts and satellite towns.
He added that the minister’s hands-on approach to project supervision had earned him the confidence of the administration.
The President also declared that funding would no longer be an excuse for poor project execution, stressing that his administration pays contractors on time and expects timely delivery.
“We pay on time and we demand performance on time,” he said.
Tinubu urged residents of Gaduwa to protect the newly commissioned road by keeping drainage channels free of refuse and preventing the vandalism of streetlights and other public infrastructure.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to extending development across the FCT, from the city centre to the area councils.
“Our task is fixed: finish what matters, connect what was separated and ensure that public funds show up as public value. Every district deserves access. Every citizen deserves to feel government where they live,” the President said.
Speaking at the event, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike said no district in Abuja could claim to have been left out of the current administration’s infrastructure drive.
He expressed confidence that residents would continue to witness more development across the territory, describing the visible impact of governance as unprecedented in the history of the FCT.
