
An applicant, Abdullahi Mohammed Monday appeared in a Grade I Area Court in Karu, Abuja, for allegedly stealing wrappers, bags, and shoes worth N450, 000.
The police charged Mohammed, 31, of no fixed address with Joint Act, Criminal trespass, Shop Breaking, Theft, Mischief, and Belonging to a gang of thieves.
The Prosecution Counsel, Ade Adeyanju told the court that on Aug. 28, the defendant and four others, now at large broke into the complainant’s shop and stole 50 pieces of different wrappers.
The Prosecutor said that in the process, the defendant also stole 25 pieces of bags and 15 pieces of slippers all valued at N450, 000.
During the Police investigation, only three wrappers were recovered from the defendant and it was discovered that the defendant committed the offense.
The prosecutor said that the offense contravened the provisions of section 287 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Adeyanju said that the matter was reported at the Nyanya Police station by the complainant, Lucky Ikpeayan.
The Judge, Mr. Inuwa Maiwada, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N800, 000 with two sureties each in like sum.
Maiwada said that the sureties must live within court jurisdiction.

He ordered that the sureties must provide means of Identification, a valid address verified by the court staff, and a statement of account.
He adjourned the case until Nov. 1 for mention.
