The National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the South South Zone, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, has welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court in Ibadan which nullified the party’s National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025.
In a statement issued by the Zonal Publicity Secretary of the PDP South South Zone, Prince Etim Isong, and dated January 30, Orbih said the ruling represents a triumph for democracy and justice, noting that it reinforces the supremacy of the rule of law in a democratic system where no individual or group is above the law.
He stated that the judgment has once again underscored the obligation of political parties to conduct their affairs in line with the law, their constitutions and established internal democratic procedures.
According to him, the outcome of the case should serve as a reminder to all PDP stakeholders of the need to respect court decisions and uphold processes that promote democratic stability.
The PDP chieftain added that the party’s credibility and long-term survival are anchored on obedience to the rule of law, internal unity and a sincere commitment to democratic values, stressing that any process carried out in violation of due process cannot endure.
Orbih further urged members of the Turaki-led group to respect the court’s decision and rally behind the Mohammed Abdulrahman-led Caretaker Committee, with Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, which he said has been affirmed by the court as the only legitimate leadership of the PDP pending the conduct of a lawful national convention.
He maintained that aligning with the recognised leadership remains the surest way to restore unity, stability and public confidence in the party, while calling on all stakeholders to subordinate personal interests to the collective good of the PDP as it prepares for future political contests.
