Governor Ganduje Under Pressure to Sign Execution Order

It has been reported that the Kano state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is under pressure by the council of Imams in Kano to sign the execution warrant of Yahaya Aminu Sharif as soon as possible.
Though Sharif has 30 days to appeal the judgement, Sheikh Muhammad Nasir Adam, the chairman of the Council of Imams is convinced that the Governor will uphold the sentence imposed on Yahaya and not buckle down on criticisms and political sentiments.
He went on to aver that trying to tamper with the judgement might result in religious intolerance in the country.
His position has received some reactions.
For example, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Adeolu Samuel Adeyemo, concurred that though blasphemy is an unforgivable sin, religious tolerance is needed for peace to reign and that no responsible faithful should attempt and encouraged residents irrespective of religious affiliation not to violate the rules and tenets of the Holy Scriptures
Although the CAN chairman said the recent Shari’a court judgment was strictly an Islamic affair, he posited that religious tolerance should be upheld for a harmonious atmosphere to reign in the society.
On the other hand, the Civil Society Forum in Kano explained that a higher court can challenge the judgement of the Sharia, and urged affected ones to explore that path.
