Nigerians react as EFCC arrests man over “offensive” advert

Tobi Adebayo
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Sunday announced that it arrested an advert executive over an offensive campaign bearing the commission’s name and logo in Enugu.

The anti-graft agency, via its Twitter handle, said that the adverts bore “offensive messages using its name to threaten the aspiration of some politicians in the state in the build up to the 2023 general elections.”

“The two Super 48 Sheet Billboards located at Otigba and Zik Avenue Junctions in Enugu,” the agency tweeted.

Reacting to the arrest, some Twitter users hailed the commission while others kicked against it.

A Twitter user, @chigozieOgbodo tweeted: “When i saw this poster yesterday, i was shocked. I thought the @officialEFCC was behind this, not until i saw the people behind it at the bottom of the banner. Its a bad thing to misrepresent a govt agency in this manner. Good job arresting them”

@awodijnr tweeted: “Please educate us. If you are to arraign him in court, what will be the charges?”

@Sammymayor tweeted: “@officialEFCC This is Overzealousness, warning should have been better off than parading this man as criminal, we own Efcc together, it’s no one personal property,I can make a billboard of Nigeria Police will arrest anyone with criminal activities so far I do it in good faith”

@stateofgotham tweeted: “Your office wasn’t able to fish out your officers mounting roadblocks in Enugu and Owerri. But you swiftly found this billboard.”
