Following the unbearable security situation in Edo State especially the Owan Federal Constituency where kidnapping has become the order of the day, Professor Julius Ihonvbere who is the representative at the National Assembly on Thursday raised a motion of urgent public Importance at the floor of the House, urging the Mohammadu Buhari led Executive Arm of Government to come up with a holistic implementable strategy that will curb Insurgency, Banditry, and kidnapping in Nigeria.
Prof. Ihonvbere, shocked by the recent cases of Kidnappings in the past few weeks, described it as an act of wickedness perpetrated by evil and cold-hearted elements as more than ten (10) persons, including children and professionals have been kidnapped while carrying on their legitimate business across both local government areas.
Ihonvbere said such a strategy including immediate recruitment of officers, deployment of personnel, support for Vigilante groups and local hunters as well as dialogue with critical stakeholders, to immediately address the kidnappings and abductions in the Constituency.
The House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Basic Education and services also urge the Inspector General of Police and the Director-General of the Department of State Security Services to as a matter of urgency, step up actions in curtailing the incidents of kidnapping and banditry in Owan Federal Constituency as well as all over the country.
Prof. Julius Ihonvbere has assured the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Security Services and other security agencies, of support in every way possible to address this emerging challenge with the urgency it deserves
Prof Inhonvbere condemns Edo communal clash
The incessant kidnappings in Owan Federal Constituency have forced Prof. Julius Ihonvbere to taken urgent proactive measures to arrest the situation as he calls for the immediate deployment of more Police officers, Special squads, and collaboration with local hunters, Vigilante groups, and traditional institutions within the Constituency.
This was contained in a letter issued by the Lawmaker titled “ KIDNAPPERS HAVE TAKEN OVER OWAN FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY: SAVE OUR SOULS” issued on Monday, 19th April 2021, in Abuja to the Inspector General of Police and the Director-General of the Department of State Security Services.
