The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), said that Commandants, Commanders and Air Component Commanders, are meeting with the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar to evolve a new strategy that will enhance its capacity, in dealing with the emerging security threats across the federation.
The Service, also disclosed that it is formulating a contemporary logistics support system, that will aid its operations, in bringing to rubble, terrorists’ and insurgents’ networks in the country.
The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, made this disclosure while addressing Commandants, Commanders, and Air Component Commanders, at NAF headquarters in Abuja.
According to him, “We must therefore, use this period of introspection to evolve strategies to improve our operations as well as enhance our logistics support systems and maintenance practices while ensuring the serviceability of our air assets for optimal employment of
airpower capabilities in joint operations. I am confident that the resolutions we would reach and indeed the decisions
we would take will enable us to move the NAF to greater heights. I am particularly delighted to note that we have started taking delivery of
additional air assets purchased for us by the Federal Government. Indeed, only last week, we received the two remaining Diamond-62 Multi-Purpose Platforms at a brief but colourful ceremony held in Ilorin, Kwara State”.

The Air Chief, equally revealed that in no distant time, the Service shall also be inducting other new platforms
acquired by the Federal Government for the Service.
“When inducted, these additional aircraft would surely add considerable impetus to our operations in dealing with insurgents, terrorists and other criminal elements plaguing our Nation,” he said.
Noting that the meeting is aimed at enhancing the capacity of our Commandants, Commanders, and Air Component Commanders for optimal command responsibility, the CAS added that the symposium, also seeks to appraise its current state of effectiveness and efficiency in contributing to the enhancement of national security as well as in dealing with current and emerging security challenges facing our dear nation.
He expressed optimism that the gathering will provide an avenue to critically analyze their activities, achievements and challenges to evolve strategies to overcome the challenges while charting a way forward to take the Service to greater heights.
He noted that for the first time since his assumption of office as the 22nd Chief of the Air Staff, this meeting will also allow him to hear from various commanders, about the challenges confronting their various units, while also allowing him to address some policy issues aimed at streamlining the activities of the Service for optimum performance.
He concluded that the assemblage would yield tangible outcomes to enhance the service’s efforts towards meeting national security imperatives.
In his address of welcome, the Chief of Policy and Plans (NAF), Air Vice Marshal Sayo Olatunde, told the commanders that as leaders they are saddled with the
responsibility of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and
motivation to accomplish the assigned mission and
improving the Service.
“You would observe from what I have said that for you to be effective as a military commander and leader, you must also be a good manager of the human and material resources at your disposal. And as a mentor you are expected to take all actions that would support long-term growth of your direct subordinates,” he said.
