Nobody knows what former service chiefs used money for – Munguno

The National Security Adviser, Babagana Munguno, has said that nobody knows what the former service chiefs used the money that was given to them to buy weapons during their tenure for.

The former service chiefs who are now non -career ambassador are rtd. Gen.Abayomi Olonisakin, rtd. Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai , rtd. Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas , rtd. Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar and rtd. Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Usman .

Speaking with BBC Hausa National Security Adviser, said that the new service chiefs, Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor; the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Awwal Gambo; and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Ishiaka Amao could not find any newly acquired weapons and other military hardware when they assumed office.

“Nobody knows what they used the money for, but, I assure you the president is going to probe all the money given to them during their tenure,”

“Maybe the weapons are on their way from America. I cannot disclose further on the matter since a proper investigation has not been conducted.”

“Most Nigerians think we are not putting in efforts to curb the worsening state of insecurity in this country, we are working tirelessly to bring an end to all these security challenges.”

‘The President has done his own part and allocated a huge amount of money to purchase weapons but they are yet to be here. We don’t know where they are,” Munguno said.

“I am not saying that the past service chiefs have diverted the money, but presently we don’t know where the money is.’
