Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said the ongoing massive development of roads in the territory would ease the transportation of food from rural areas to urban centres.
Wike stated this yesterday when he inspected the Kwaita and Yangoni-Sukuk roads, which are under construction.
He expressed satisfaction that the Renewed Hope Agenda works in the nation’s capital.
The Minister said he was overwhelmed by the road’s level and the possibilities of evacuating food from the fast-growing fertile farm lands to the city market.
He also expressed optimism that, with good weather currently available, the roads would be completed and delivered in December this year.
Wike said, “What amazes me is the length of these roads, particularly as we have a very positive impact on these communities. When we went to Kwaita, you can see how long the road is. And we are now in Yangoji-Sukuku road.
“I can’t believe what I’ve seen. But I thank almighty God that the renewed hope agenda is alive and working. Regarding the performance of the contractors, you know we had heavy rains this year, and we gave them December to complete this project. But you can see the level of job they have done.
“This is a good quality job, and this is in the rural area. I am very much impressed with all the contractors.”
Impressed by the job’s quality and the level of construction, Wike assured me that he was ready to ensure the payment of the contractors handling the roads.
“I am impressed, very much impressed. And I will do everything to ensure that funding is okay to them. When you see contractors who are committed, you, on your part, as part of the government, will also carry out your obligation by making sure that they are funded to complete these roads and make the people happy.
“I’m sure you can see farms and an expanse of land for farming. If the government can capitalise on this, we will discuss food security. So I’m quite impressed, very much impressed,” he said.
Wike, however, charged other communities that have yet to be reached to be patient and said that if they are not captured yet, with time, other administrations will get them as the government is a continuum.
“Government is a continuum. The ones we can do, we’ll try and complete them. When another government comes, it continues. The government can only solve some problems at the same time. Even if you are in office for 20 years, there will still be problems. But it is essential that people see they are trying to reduce their burden.
“That’s what is important. So, as I said before, all areas in Abuja, be it the city or satellite towns, will all have the impact of this government,” Wike said.
