The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the suspension of former governor and serving Senator, Gbenga Daniel, alongside party chieftain, Kunle Folarin, over alleged anti-party activities.
A statement issued in Abeokuta by the party’s Director of Publicity, Nuberu Olufemi, said the suspensions followed reports from ward disciplinary committees in Sagamu Local Government.
According to the party, Ward IV accused Senator Daniel of misconduct, while Ward VI levelled similar allegations against Folarin.
Both were invited to appear before their committees but allegedly failed to attend or submit written defences.
“Given their deliberate and unexplained absences, the committees relied on witness testimonies and documentary evidence to deliberate on the allegations and recommended suspension,” the statement read.
The recommendations were ratified by the State Working Committee (SWC), chaired by Chief Yemi Sanusi, who said the decision demonstrated APC’s resolve to uphold internal discipline and its constitution.
Sanusi also alleged that Daniel and Folarin attempted to intimidate petitioners who brought the complaints.
But Senator Daniel has rejected the move, insisting he has not been formally notified.
In a swift reaction through his media aide, Steve Oliyide, the former governor said neither he nor his office had received any suspension letter or prior communication from the party.
“We have not been served any letter regarding these so-called anti-party allegations or suspension. Until that happens, these remain speculative pronouncements,” Oliyide said.
The indefinite suspension leaves Daniel and Folarin in uncertain standing within the party, pending further investigation and possible escalation to national APC organs.
Political observers warn the development could deepen fissures within the Ogun APC as the state heads into a new political cycle, with Daniel, a two-term governor, still wielding considerable influence in Ogun East.
