NURTW official ‘Shamelon’ in court over alleged murder

The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a 55-year-old official of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Samsideen Oladiti, popularly known as Shamelon, over his alleged involvement in two violent crimes on Lagos Island.
Recall that on September 17, 2025, at about 3:00 p.m., the suspect allegedly attacked a dispatch rider on Lagos Island, using a helmet and his fists to inflict serious injuries. The victim was rushed to the hospital, placed on oxygen, and is still receiving medical treatment.
The following day, at about 11:00 a.m., police said another complaint was lodged against Oladiti in connection with an incident on August 28, 2025. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly used a metallic ring to repeatedly strike a man on the head and face, leaving him with severe wounds. Despite medical intervention, the victim was confirmed dead by a doctor on September 17. His body has since been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy.
Police say the high-profile transport union leader will now answer to both charges in court.
On Tuesday, September 30, the senior Lagos official of the NURTW appeared in court on allegations of murder and assault.
A viral video sighted by THISNIGERIA showed police officers discreetly escorting Shamelon out of the court premises today amid chants for justice.
His presence in court has stirred strong emotions, with crowds demanding accountability for the alleged crimes.
