ECOWAS proposes gradual adoption of single currency

The launch of Eco, which is the proposed single currency of the Economic Community of West African States, has been paused at the moment.

The decision to delay the launch of Eco was revealed during the 57th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS yesterday.

It was reported that ECOWAS members opted for a strategy that would ensure that the adoption of the single currency is eased until it is launched while trying to consolidate on the accomplishments of the body. In view of this, ECOWAS would come up with a new date for the launch.

Speaking on the probable success of the single currency, President Muhammadu Buhari stated that all member states would have to comply with what has been agreed to make it work.
