The Kebbi State Government has expanded its traditional administration structure with the creation of a new district in Dandi Local Government Area and the establishment of an additional village headship in Augie Local Government Area.
The measures, approved by Governor Nasir Idris, will see eight village areas brought under the newly created Buma District, while a new traditional ruler has also been appointed to oversee Marafan Garin Haruna in Tiggi District.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Umar Dutsinmari, disclosed this in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.
He said Buma District was excised from the existing Dolekaina District in Dandi LGA, with Salisu Hakimi appointed as its pioneer District Head.
The commissioner identified the eight village areas under the new district as Tunga Rafi, Gamana, Tudunsan, Gillare, Bump Town, Goraro, Bukki and Alfarma Kwara.
In a related development, the governor approved the appointment of Nasiru Umar Maizabo as the Village Head of Marafan Garin Haruna in Tiggi District, Augie LGA.
According to Dutsinmari, the decisions were made pursuant to the provisions of the Kebbi State Local Government Law, 2008, particularly Section 10, Subsections (A) and (B), which provide the legal framework for the creation of districts and the appointment of district heads.
The commissioner said the latest changes were aimed at improving the effectiveness of traditional institutions and strengthening administration at the grassroots.
He charged the new traditional rulers to regard their appointments as a responsibility to their communities, urging them to uphold integrity, transparency, discipline and commitment in the performance of their duties.
Dutsinmari said the government selected the appointees based on their previous records and expressed confidence in their ability to discharge their responsibilities effectively.
“Your appointments were made based on your past records. Be rest assured of the Governor’s and the Ministry’s support and cooperation,” he told the new appointees.
The government expects the restructuring to improve coordination within the traditional institutions and enhance grassroots governance in the affected communities.
