The Federal and State governments have both been warned by the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) that twenty-eight states in the country would be affected by heavy flooding in the next three months.
Air Vice Marshall Edward Adedokun, the Director of NEMA, made this known while inspecting the military’s emergency response units. He also urged the government to ensure that the states are not unprepared for the flood, as it is very likely that the end of this year would be marked by torrential flooding.
Adedokun said, “The realities on the ground show that what we are seeing is already surpassing that. Particularly, in Kebbi State, out of the predicted 11 LGAs, we have had far and beyond that number that are already affected with loss of lives, farmlands swept away… In Lagos, there are designated LGA that we have also forewarned before now and by the time we see the government we would like to see the level of compliance with the earlier warning signs that we have passed.”
