Pro SARS Protest Rocks Kano

Hundreds of thousands of youths on Wednesday staged a street protest urging the federal government to rescind the disbandment of FSARs and initiate a reform of the dreaded Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad. FSARs.
The youths under the umbrella of coalition of Youth Organizations with the motive titled auspices of Movement for SARS Reformation marched peacefully across major streets in the ancient city.
The group clamored against the scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), suggesting that reformation of the special unit is most preferable..
The convener of the coalition, Comrade Khalid Sunusi Kani addressing the protesters appealed to Kano State governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Gandje to pass their call for reforms to President Muhammadu Buhari.
He stressed that there is the need to reform the police and the squad to streamline the operations of the unit in ensuring that operatives assigned to the unit posses the requisite physical, mental and professional status.
The state Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, while addressing the protesters at the state government House applaud the swift response to the matter by the Inspector General of Police Muhammadu Adamu Abubakar.
He further commended the police honcho for the replacement of the defunct Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) with Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT).
Ganduje said “We noticed that there are protests in some sections of the country, while in Kano our youth have decided to take a good stand by not condemning the Police as an institution. But only condemned few bad eggs among them.
“Without Police can we move freely in the country? We are only calling on the fishing out of the bad eggs among the institution. No more no less. Reforming Police institution is what our youth here in Kano are agitating for. We are commending you for maintaining peace and order in the state.”
The governor received a letter of commendation from the youths for onward delivery to President Muhammadu Buhari.
