Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) reports that many depot owners are fearful of loading fuel because of the tense atmosphere.
Due to fear of attacks, depot owners have taken this decision. However, over the coming days, this might lead to the scarcity of the product.
Alhaji Abubakar Maigandi, National Vice President of IPMAN, has said that the current state of the country with the crises has stopped marketers from moving their loaded trucks.
He said that consumers buy fuel daily and that marketers have parked their trucks at safe spots nationwide to avoid being burnt or looted at angry youths. He further elaborated that failure to replace fuel in stations will lead to scarcity if the current crises are not stemmed.
Maigandi added that there has been no hoarding of products but not replacing reserves might definitely cause exhaustion in stock and a negative impact on supply.
“The ones that have already loaded have parked their trucks in the yards so that protesters will not set them on fire. There is no way you can have sufficient fuel in the filling stations because we don’t hoard it,” he said.
He urges protesters to embrace dialogue, saying that the economic impact of the crises might be immeasurable.
