The 11year old out of school Edo boy, Gift Osayuwu, the who allegedly stole and wore a Police Sergeant’s uniform when hoodlums attacked and set the Oba Market Police Station in Benin City ablaze during the #EndSARS protest has started school.

He was in a Junior Second school one class of Standard Group of Schools, Benin City on Monday, November 2, 2020, courtesy of an Education Trust Fund set up by some civil rights activists in Benin City, so he can acquire formal education.

The activists including Mr Kola Edokpayi and Barrister Felix Esere and others said so far they have realised the sum of N110,000 for the child’s education and upkeep.

They said while they are raising more funds to finance his tuition from Secondary school to any academic level he wishes, the money will also buy him books and other learning materials, clothes, shoes etc.

It all started when news of the boy wearing the Police station went viral. They said, “We met with the mother, who happens to be widow and hawks pure water on the streets of Benin, to take care of the boy and another child  after her husband died in 2018”.

The activists say the mother lived in a one room apartment with the boys who became street urchins since their father passed.

They say their plan is to help their mother get an alternative accommodation and set up a more profitable business venture so she can take care of her boys going forward.

The boy himself has said he loves Police work and would really love to be educated up to a level where he can join the Nigeria Police and become the Inspector- general some day.

For the purpose of accountability, since he is a minor, they say donations for now will not be going to a bank account except one managed by a Board of Trustees chaired by Chief Engr. Owen Obaseki with Kola Edokpayi, Felix Osemwengie Isere, Pharez Okpere and Sarah Igunbor as members.
