With six points already in their purse from two matches, the Super Eagles will aim to consolidate their lead in Group C of the Africa qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup when they tackle The Wild Beasts of Central African Republic (CAR) today in a matchday 3 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

This is one encounter the Super Eagles are favorites to win convincingly, especially playing in front of their home fans against a Central African Republic side dubbed by many football pundits as a weak side that should pose no threat to the quality and ambition of the Three-Times African champions as they seek to progress into the final phase of the qualifiers.

While the Gernot Rohr tutored Super Eagles parading array of Europe-based professionals are yet to drop a point in the group, their opponents, who are a mixture of foreign and home-based players have recorded only a point in the two matches they have played so far and that was achieved at home against Cape Verde but lost at away to the Lone Stars of Liberia in Monrovia.

Interestingly, both Liberia and Cape Verde have lost their matches to the Super Eagles, and this will boost the confidence of the Three-Times Champions going into the encounter.

Though Rohr will be banking on the qualities of the likes of in-form, Kelechi Iheanacho and Victor Osimhen, who were the architects of the victories against Liberia and Cape Verde to deliver the needed victory, Coach Raoul Savoy will be placing his hope on his more experienced players like Geoffrey Kondogbia of Athletico Madrid, Louis Mafouta, who stars for Neuchâtel Xamax of Switzerland and goalkeeper Geoffrey Didace Lembet of French Championnat National, CS Sedan Ardennes to stun the Eagles

Former Nigerian international, Daniel Amokachi, who was a key member of the Super Eagles squad to the 1994 World Cup in the United States has already tipped the Musa Ahmed captained Eagles to convincingly fly over The Wild Beasts but was quick to warn against complacency which has cost teams victories.

“I think we’ve good quality to be able to score up to 2-4 goals in tomorrow’s (today) game. The Super Eagles are in a right state now, sitting top on the log but it should be exciting. You know in this modern football you have to play and finish, you understand, but I’ll no longer have to have double mind by the special grace of God,” he said.

Rohr, who also spoke yesterday, said the Super Eagles will play to their full strength and will not underrate their opponents, whom he believes is a strong side to place against.

“I expect tough opposition from the Central African Republic side. They parade some good players that can destroy any team. So, we’re not going to take them for granted. We’ll approach this match with all the seriousness needed to achieve the desired result,” he assured while urging Nigerians to give the Eagles the maximum support throughout the game.
