The Ogun State Police Command has lamented the reckless use of unregistered vehicles and motorcycles across the state, which it noted are being used for heinous crimes.
This is even as the Police Commissioner, Edward Ajogun directed area commanders and divisional police officers throughout the state to clamp down on those plying the roads with unregistered vehicles, motorcycles as well as those driving vehicles with tinted glasses without permit.
Ajogun, who spoke through the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi recalled how a lecturer at the D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori in Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state was gruesomely murdered by gunmen using unregistered Lexus Jeep.
While warning motorists and motorcyclists in the state to desist, Ajogun said anyone caught driving an unregistered car or motorcycle would be dealt with.
He added that the car or motorcycle will be impounded while the owner will also be prosecuted.
‘’Similarly, owners of vehicles with factory fitted tinted glasses are advised to approach the command’s department of operations for a tinted permit certificate.
‘’Those using artificial tinted glasses are advised in their own interest to remove them forthwith or face prosecution’’ he stated.
The commissioner said as an organisation saddled with constitutional responsibility of protection of life and property, the command will not fold its arms while criminally minded individuals’ makes life difficult for good people of the state.
‘’The command will therefore do everything within its power and law to bring criminals to their knees, especially as we are approaching the yuletide season’’, he assured.
