By Abdulgafar Oladimeji.
The Speaker, Kano state House of Assembly, KSHA, and member representing Ajingi constituency Hon Abdulazeez Garba Gafasa has resigned.
The lawmaker in a letter dated 14th December made public by 12am same day and addressed to the clerk of the state assembly attributed his decision to vacate office to personal reasons.
The former speaker praised his colleagues for the support and understanding extended to him while he held forth as the speaker of the house.
Investigation revealed that the speaker was compelled to relinquish his position to avoid vendetta over burning issues mounting in the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, in Kano.
An impeccable source told our correspondent that, “the resignation of Mr speaker Gafasa is not unconnected with the coming local government elections in Kano and waving interest in the 2023 general elections in the state.
“The speaker in collaboration with a popular senator are strategizing for 2023 in a manner that is against the interest of the APC hierarchy in Kano. The state forces mobilized against the former speaker, Gafasa and to save his face, he quickly resigned,” the source said.
The majority leader of Kano state House of Assembly Nasiru Hassan Danshi deputy majority leader Hon. Tasi’u Ibrahim Zabainawa also resigned the positions they are holding in the house.
Danshi in his resignation letter addressed to the state assembly refrained from citing the reasons that prompted his decision to quit office as a principal officer of the house..
Members of Kano State House of Assembly today swiftly elected the deputy speaker and member representing Makoda constituency, Engr. Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari as new speaker of the state assembly.
