Peace Walk: Lagos students to mobilise 3m to join Sanwo-Olu

The apex body of the indigenous student’s body in Lagos State, National Union of Lagos State Students (NULASS) on Friday said it will mobilise not less than three million of its members to join Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in his proposed walk for peace, healing and prosperity of the centre of excellence.

Also, Yoruba self-determination groups under the banners of the Coalition of Oodua Self Determination Groups (COSEG) has assured the Lagos State Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu of its readiness to join him in the walk for peace he called for.

It stated that the intervention of Governor Sanwo-Olu in education has shown that he deserves the support of all the indigenous students for peace in Lagos State.

NULASS in a statement issued and signed by its President, Akinola Shasanya and Public Relations Officer, Abdulsalam Hassan, titled “Three Million NULASS members to walk with Sanwo-Olu to promote peace in Lagos,” said Lagos State deserves true healing after the disturbances that trailed last year’s protests against police brutality.

The student’s body said only the sustenance of harmony can guarantee the realisation of all indigenous students aspirations.

NULASS, therefore, urged all their members to come out in large numbers to join Governor Sanwo-Olu to walk for peace and harmony of Lagos State.

The statement reads in part: “Solidarity greetings from the Atlantic city to all indigenous Students of Lagos State. We are glad to inform all members that NULASS will walk with the Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to promote peace in the center of excellence.

“As the apex indigenous students body of the center of excellence, it’s part of our duty to heal our land from atrocities.

“Lagos State deserves true healing after the disturbances that trailed last year’s protests against police brutality. It is only the sustenance of harmony that can guarantee the realization of the aspirations of all indigenous students.

“NULASS is ready to facilitate better communication between the government and the students to sustain mutual relationships and resolve issues before they become intractable.

“On this note, we urge all members to come out in mass to join the governor to walk for peace and harmony for our dear state because his antecedent in education has shown that he deserves our support during this period.”

Yoruba self-determination groups under the banners of the Coalition of Oodua Self Determination Groups (COSEG) has assured the Lagos State Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu of its readiness to join him in the walk for peace he called for.
 
The state Governor has in his address to the state on panel report on the Lekki Tollgate shooting on Wednesday.
 
COSEG  in a press release signed by the group chairman, Dayo Ogunlana, in Mushin on Thursday assured the governor of Lagos State of the readiness of the group to walk with him on any day earmarked for the peace walk proposed by him.
 
The group said; “we want to assure the governor of Lagos State, that he will not walk alone, we shall not only walk with him, we shall also mobilise all the civil society organizations that want the tranquillity and progress of Lagos State to walk with him on the date picked. 
 
We are talking with several groups already and they have given us their words to walk with Mr governor. As long as the objective of the walk is to promote peace and tranquillity in Lagos state, we are in”.
 
Ogunlana highlighted the merits of living in peace in Lagos which they canvassed will lead to the development and growth of the state.
 
He said; “we have also clearly stated that Lagos is the commercial hub of the Yorubas and we will not stop at doing anything that will hugely spur progress and its development. The growth, progress and development matter greatly to us. we shall therefore not look away from anything that will promote its progress.
 
The group issued a warning to groups or individuals who have resolved not to allow peace to reign in Lagos should thread carefully and stop the beating of war drums, as we will not hesitate to defend Lagos, our pride. We have said it several times that we will not joke or dialogue on the destruction of Lagos. No, we will not.”
 
The group called on all to embrace the governor’s initiative of peace walk to move Lagos up.
 
The group said; “we call on all to embrace the genuine initiative of Mr governor to live in peace, to develop Lagos and to move Lagos forward. This we think the peace walk will achieve. It’s time for the good people of Lagos to defend Lagos for it to move forward as it always.
