The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has extended the service periods of three Corps members, as 1,050 others in the 2020 Batch “A” and ”B” service year passed out in Sokoto state.
Mr. Muhammad Nakamba, the NYSC Coordinator in Sokoto State, told newsmen on Thursday, that the Corps members got extensions for various offences.
Nakamba, who spoke through the scheme’s Public Relations Officer, Malam Sani Idris, said that the sanctions were for offences that including abscondment and others, noting that the punishment was meant to serve as deterrent to others.
He added that out of the 1,050 corps members, who served in the state, two of them obtained the prestigious Sultan of Sokoto award for outstanding performance.
Commendation letters would also be issued to deserving corps members, as the awards were designed to appreciate outstanding performance during the service year.
The coordinator urged the outgoing corps members to utilize the skills they acquired during the vocational training at the orientation camp and during the service period.
“Try to be good ambassadors of this country and your family; you should ensure that you associate with people of good character.
“ The vocational training you were exposed to during your orientation programme, is enough to make you excel without wondering about the saturated labour market,” he said.
