Wike flags off old Keffi road project, announces rehabilitation of 73 Abuja schools

In a bid to revamp public infrastructure and improve access to quality education, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike has announced the rehabilitation of 73 government secondary schools in Abuja and flagged off the 15km Old Keffi Road project.

Speaking during the flag-off of the rehabilitation of the 15-kilometre Old Keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei on Tuesday, the former Rivers governor said it is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda

“Out of 103 Government Secondary Schools in the FCT, 73 are currently under rehabilitation, while 33 more projects will soon be flagged off.

“Out of 105 ongoing projects, 73 are located within AMAC and the city. This administration is working hard to change things for the better both for Nigerians and the people of Abuja,” the minister said.

The Minister noted that the Old Keffi Road project was one of several major interventions approved by President Tinubu to ease traffic congestion, enhance connectivity, and promote economic activities across FCT communities.

“When we commissioned the Saburi Road, I said it could only be completed if this Old Keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei was also rehabilitated. Today, to the glory of God, we are here to fulfill that promise made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Wike said.

Wike disclosed that Lubrik Construction Company, which handled the Saburi project, has again been awarded the 15km Old Keffi Road rehabilitation due to the quality of their past work and their proven technical capacity. The Minister directed the construction company to prioritize local content by employing youths, men, and women from host communities to enable them to benefit economically during the project’s execution.

In her vote of thanks, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, lauded President Tinubu for his continuous support for infrastructure renewal and for prioritizing projects that directly touch the lives of citizens.

“This road is a lifeline that serves thousands of commuters daily, linking communities, reducing travel time, improving road safety, and stimulating socio-economic activities across this axis,” Mahmoud said.

She also commended Wike for his purposeful leadership, describing the project as another testament to the administration’s commitment to connectivity and inclusive development in the FCT.

Wike urged residents to remain supportive of the Tinubu administration, warning them not to be swayed by politicians who “failed to deliver when they had the chance.”

“Do not be deceived by people who come with empty stories. We gave them a first chance they failed. We gave them a second chance they failed again. If we make the mistake of giving them a third chance, they will destroy everything,” he cautioned.

The Minister revealed that the FCT Administration has lined up 27 project flag-offs across Abuja, a feat he said “has never happened before,” emphasizing that the projects are tangible evidence of the President’s commitment to development.
