The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally recognised the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that emerged from the party’s national convention in Abuja, consolidating the leadership structure backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The electoral umpire reflected the update on its official platform, listing Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, alongside other members of the party’s national leadership.

Confirming the development, the Commission published the updated list of national officers on its website following the convention.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission has recognised the faction of the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike,” the update indicated, while publishing the names of the party’s national officers.

Both Abdulrahman Mohammed and Anyanwu emerged at the PDP national convention held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, where delegates adopted a consensus arrangement after the dissolution of the party’s caretaker committee.

The convention followed weeks of consultations among party leaders aimed at resolving internal disagreements that had polarised the PDP into rival tendencies, with stakeholders opting for consensus to stabilise the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

INEC’s recognition is considered significant as the acknowledged leadership retains the authority to interface officially with the electoral body on statutory matters, including submission of candidates, nomination processes and other activities regulated under the Electoral Act.

“The electoral body reflected the development on its official website… listing Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary,” the update stated.
