Reactions have continued to trail a recent order by a French court that approved the seizure of three presidential jets linked to the Federal Government.
The jets to be seized are a Dassault Falcon 7X, a Boeing 737-7N6/BBJ and an Airbus A330-243 belonging to the federal government of Nigeria, stationed at Paris-Le Bourget and Basel-Mulhouse airports.
The French court grounded the jets due to a contract dispute between the Ogun State government and Zhongshan, a Chinese company that had entered into an agreement with the state government.
The contract between the two parties, however, hit a deadlock and was revoked by the state government in 2016.
The judgment is the latest arbitration effort against Nigeria by the foreign company, alleging that Africa’s most populous nation reneged on an agreement.
Some Nigerians have, however, condemned the development, describing it as embarrassing to the people of the nation.
One Victor Etuk wrote, “It’s very simple if you don’t respect yourself, don’t expect anybody to respect you . Nigerians politicians are damaging our dear country image both local and at international community.Every country is governing by the rules of law. No matter how mighty the person is, he or she is not above the law. I think it’s the right time out so called leaders start respecting our sovereignty before expecting another country to respect our sovereignty.”

“A state had a business dealing with a Chinese firm, guess who’s been held to account for the debt of $74.5 million? The entire country called Nigeria is now the debtor. There has to be a connection between that state, the Chinese firm and ‘FG not Nigeria’,” @Frosh wrote.

“Just imagine the way those power grabbers are messing up the name of this country,” @Oroma said.
@Vivienvivicoko stressed that, “Hope y’all know that this $74.5m is in the pockets of politicians. Nigerians should have no business defending any politician of any creed or tribe.”
“I do not know how we got where we are at the moment. These few people are causing the nation irreparable damage. When we are actually ready to stand up as a people, we know what to do,” @MrGerald noted.
