NCDC announces outbreak of Cholera across states

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced an outbreak of Cholera across states in the country.

The agency made the announcement via its verified Twitter account on Thursday and advised Nigerians to practice good hygiene in order to stop further spread of the disease.

“There is an increase in the number of Cholera cases being reported across States.
To prevent the spread of #cholera; Drink clean water from reliable sources; Stop defecation in open places; Wash your hands frequently with soap & running water; Cook & preserve food properly,” the tweet read.

NCDC had on Tuesday confirmed human cases of Avian Influenza H5N1 also called Bird flu, across seven states.

The states include; Kano, Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Niger.

“Health National Rapid Response Team (RRT) from NCDC and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture were deployed to Bauchi, Kano and Plateau States.

“A total of 83 human samples were received and 64 (87.7 per cent) samples were tested. Of the tested samples, seven (10.9 per cent) were positive for Flu A, six 85.7 per cent were subtype A/H5 while one 14.3 per cent was unsub-typable,” NCDC Director-General, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, said.
