FCT at 50: Much has changed in infrastructure, Wike lauds Tinubu

By Ben Adoga, Abuja

As Nigeria’s federal capital, Abuja turns 50, Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, during an inspection of projects, applauded the development strides, saying that a lot has changed in terms of infrastructure.

Wike said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has fundamentally altered Abuja’s landscape.

Speaking to journalists after visiting several construction sites, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the pace of work, specifically the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) and the Apo-Wassa road network.

Wike began his tour from the 3.6km Collector Road in Gishiri, noting that the road network is slated for inauguration by the President during his third anniversary.

He then moved to the OSEX/Ring Road I area to inspect bridge construction, followed by a visit to the Apo-Wassa sector—a critical hub intended for Apo traders.

“I am quite impressed by this initiative. We are handling three major jobs. I am quite impressed with the quality and pace of work. These are expected to be completed, I hope, by August, while the work in the OSEX area will be delivered as part of the third anniversary,” Wike stated.

Reflecting on the FCT’s 50th Anniversary (February 3, 2026), Wike emphasised that the recent infrastructure push is more than just a celebration.

“Over the past three years, this isn’t merely a Golden Jubilee celebration—the President’s tenure has changed the landscape of the FCT,” the Minister remarked, adding that all works strictly adhere to the Abuja Master Plan.
