By Andy Asemota
The demise of the member representing Aba North / South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ossy Prestige, has elicited the suspension of all legislative activities and business day in the National Assembly.
The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, while announcing the suspension shortly after the Red Chamber resumed plenary, said it was inline with the convention of the National Assembly following the passage of a parliamentarian in the Senate or its House of Representatives counterpart.
Moving the motion that the Senate suspends all other items on the its agenda including its official engagements within or outside the chamber, the Senate Leader, Abubakar Yahaya Abdullahi, prayed for a minute silence in honour of Hon. Ossy Prestige, who died in Germany on 7th January, 2021.
ThisNigeria recalls that the National Assembly went on recess from December 21, 2020, to January 26th, 2021, for Christmas and New Year break but postponed its resumption till Tuesday, February 9th, 2021, to enable members of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the Assembly to participate in the party’s membership registration and revalidation exercise in the country.
