Notwithstanding the public holiday to mark the Christian Easter feast of Christ’s death and resurrection, FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike stormed the Abuja city centre where he inspected six ongoing road projects, keeping the contractors on their toes to beat the deadline.

Wike who was satisfied with both the quality and the level of the jobs said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was fulfilling his campaign promises to Nigerians and Abuja residents in particular with the massive road projects that are ongoing.

The first port of call was the Southern Park Way which stretches from Area Three junction through Living Faith Church to Durumi district.

Here almost all the interchange has been completed while the remaining serious job is the finishing and embankments.

Then he proceeded to inspect the official residence of the Vice President being handled by Julius Berger.

The contractor informed the minister’s team that the job was at the 99 percent completion stage. He also assured that the interior was at a 90 percent completion stage.

While the team physically took a walk round, it was observed that interior lamps were being mounted as well as cooling systems. Land scalping was also going on at the time of the visit.

The Easter Day visit will make the minister’s fourth appearance on this project site since Wike re-commissioned the project.

The Garki – UN building stretch of construction was equally visited. When completed, this will decongest the city it links the Central Business District, CBD with the City Gate.

The Wuye – Garki interchange was equally revisited. Here the street lighting was being handled at the time of the visit. While the N- 20 to NEXT Cash ‘n Carry was a beehive of activities.

Gilmor, the contractor assured me that in two weeks they will be done and ready to hand over.

While there, street lighting was being installed. The contractor said half of the street lights had already been broken.

The Power House-Guru section of the road, including the interchanges handled by CGC was equally visited.

Here the main project was done and road marking and dressing the median was going in at the time of the visit.

Here, the contractor appealed to FCT residents for cooperation as there would be more road diversions ahead of the Guru interchange.

It was after the hectic day in the sun that the Minister addressed the press.

He said, “Despite blackmail that it will not happen, we have been to six sites today. The jobs are at the completion stages. Some are at 90 per cent and will all be ready before May for Mr. President to commission.”

“After the public holidays on Monday, on Tuesday I have a meeting with all the contractors while on Wednesday, I will commence another round of inspection of projects from Gizape 11.

“The Renewed Hope Agenda is working. Mr. President’s promise is coming out successful. When you make a promise and fulfil it gives hope and happiness; see the excitement of people where ever we go.

“Funding is not a problem in Abuja, no project under us will be abandoned, if we don’t have money, we will not award contracts.

“The quality, so far is good, all is going on well so far.”

In some locations, residents came out in their numbers to hail Wike for a good job while some hail his friend, Senator Philip Aduda, who is always present in all project tours.
