#EndSARS: Protests continue, Lekki Toll Gate blocked

#EndSARS protesters on Monday morning have blocked the Lekki Toll Gate section of the Lekki-Epe Expressway, to resume demonstrations.
This demonstration has caused heavy traffic as commuters are at a standstill.
This is despite the disbandment of the unit as announced by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on Sunday.
This time, however, the protesters are not demanding the disbandment of the unit which has already been scrapped. They are demanding the release of all arrested protesters, justice for all deceased victims of police brutality and appropriate compensation for their families, increased salaries for police officers and the establishment of an independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of all reports of police misconduct within 10 days.
They are also demanding the police authorities to carry out psychological evaluation and re-training of all disbanded SARS officers before they are redeployed.
Meanwhile, Adamu announced on Sunday that a new policing arrangement will replace the now-defunct police unit SARS and would be announced “in due course”, adding that all officers of the now non-existent SARS have been redeployed with “immediate effect”.
