There was palpable confusion at the national secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday following an order by the new national chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, for journalists to vacate the main building.
The affected journalists had no choice but to resort to wandering around the premises of Buhari House like a pack of fugitives.
Also, staff of the APC House was thrown in to panic mood due to probe order given by the former Nasarawa governor that all those who had ‘embezzled the funds of the party’ shall be made to return all that they had taken back to the coffers.

ThisNigeria gathered that journalists, numbering about 70, were yesterday left in the scorching sun for about three hours while waiting for the same national chairman for a press briefing.
Adamu, during his acceptance speech after his swearing-in at Eagles Square, had warned the media to be conscious of their reportage of the APC administration.
The former governor dedicated two-long paragraphs of his 15 acceptance speech to cautioning the media.
Adamu, in the speech, said, “At this point, I wish to appeal to our journalists and media houses to revive and uphold the patriotic spirit of the founding fathers of their profession such as Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Malam Abubakar Imam, Alhaji Alade Odunewu, and other media pioneers.
“Those great pioneers of Nigerian journalism always put the interests of Nigeria and its people above all other considerations, and they always worked for the peace, progress and prosperity of Nigeria.
“Journalists and everyone else in Nigeria should uphold this spirit of selflessness and patriotism and continue to work hard for the success of the Nigerian project.
“It is not correct to assume that it is the work of political leaders alone that will make Nigeria great, that other citizens can sit on the sidelines and just observe and criticize. We should all remember the wisdom in the saying that the chain is no stronger than its weakest link.”

Giving the directive to newsmen to vacate the allocated media centre yesterday, a party official announced that “the party leadership is embarking on a remodeling, hence the need to vacate the media centre.”
But sources at the party secretariat said the national chairman was planning to take over the media centre at the ground floor as his office, instead of his predecessor’s office.
One of the sources said: “You know our new national chairman is an old man who is not as energetic as Governor Buni or Comrade Adam Oshiomhole. In fact, it took him about 20 minutes to climb the staircase to the third floor this morning.
“Presently, both the staff and non-staff do not know what the ongoing re-organisation at the APC secretariat will lead to. All our directors and other key staff are under probe, although some of them did run and can’t escape sanction,” the source said.

It would be recalled that Adamu had warned that though he would wait for the transition committee report, he would definitely, by the will of God Almighty, look at the secretariat.
He added: “It is my hope that by the time the transition committee report is submitted, you will have what they call a clean bill of ledger, and that is my prayer.
“Those we owe advert money may have to wait a little longer because the chairman directed, last Friday, that the account of the party should be frozen.”
