The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned motorists against the use of unauthorized number plates to stem security challenges in the country.
Mr. Shamaki Yerima, Itori Unit Commander, gave the warning on Friday during the stakeholder’s sensitization meeting in Itori, Ogun State.
Yerima said the warning had become necessary for motorists as some people use illegal or unauthorized number plates to perpetrate evil in the state.
He noted that the meeting created a platform for road transport operators, and motorcycle unions to interact and inform operators about safety policies and best practices.

Yerima said the rate of unregistered motorcycles plying the roads was a source of concern, as most of them were used in committing crimes and traffic infractions in the state.
He said that it was an opportunity to admonish motorists to adhere strictly to the directive in order not to face the full wrath of the laws.
“The FRSC is appealing to all motorcycle and Tricycle Riders Association to ensure that their members register their number plates with the right channel before registering at the motor parks,” he said.
The unit commander urged motorists to embrace the use of speed limit devices to reduce the fatality rate when road crashes occur.
“It is essential to restate some of the policies we have adopted to reduce road crashes and bearing in mind that the major cause of road crashes is excessive speed.
“Hence, the introduction of speed limit device in vehicles to ensure that anyone that drives, must have gone through the driving school process before he or she is issued a valid drivers’ licence,” he said

Yerima also cautioned motorists driving against the traffic around the Itori axis and its environs to desist from such an act to avoid unnecessary loss of life and property.
In his response, Alhaji Saubana Bello, Chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Ewekoro chapter, commended the FRSC for the sensitization program for the safety of lives and property.
Bello promised that the outcome of the meeting would be delivered to its members to ensure sanity on our highways.
The meeting was attended by stakeholders in the transportation sector from the area. (NAN)
