PDP South-South Vice Chair, Orbih, hails Benin monarch over return of artefacts

Following the return of 39 pieces of Benin artefacts from Sweden, the National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, South-South, Chief Dan Orbih, has congratulated the Oba of Benin, HRM Oba Ewuare II.

Hailing the monarch, Orbih said his expertise helped in ensuring that the lost ancient heritage of the Benin Kingdom is returned.

He also noted that the monarch’s steadfastness in forging a rapport with the Federal Government through the Benin Royal Museum project, was one of the reasons that hastened the process.

Orbih said, “I write to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Your Majesty and the  people of Benin Kingdom on the remarkable achievement of securing the return of 39 pieces of Benin Artefacts from Sweden. This historic milestone stands as a testament to Your Majesty’s unwavering dedication to preserving the cultural heritage of the great Benin kingdom against formidable odds.

“The restitution of these precious artefacts is not merely a retrieval of tangible objects but a cherished reclaiming of a rich and storied aspect of our history.  Your steadfast advocacy and diplomatic efforts have triumphed over attempts to divert and misrepresent the invaluable treasures of Benin Kingdom.”

He described the achievement is not only a victory for Benin Kingdom but also a triumph for cultural preservation and justice on a global scale.

“Your leadership in spearheading the federal government-backed Benin Royal Museum project is commendable, and underscores your commitment to safeguarding the cultural legacy of your people for generations to come. The recognition bestowed upon you by the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria further solidifies your rightful custodianship of Benin artefacts,” the politician stated further.
