Why banditry cannot end – Katsina gov, Radda

The governor of Katsina state, Dikko Radda has revealed why banditry is not coming to an end in the country.

The governor made the revelation in an interview with Channels Television on Sunday, May 5th.

According to him, some security personnel and government officials have turned banditry into a business venture and are benefiting from the proceeds which makes it almost impossible to end the war.

He said “Now it has turned out to be a business venture. A business venture for the criminals, some people who are in government; some people who are in security outfits, and some people who are responsible for the day-to-day activities of their people.

“These are so many reasons why we are unable to bring banditry to an end.”

The governor also explained that poverty is the major factor fueling banditry as youths are being recruited by these miscreants for as low as 500 Naira.

“Secondly, what also causes the recruitment of under the logistics services for bandits was a result of poverty because surprisingly with N5,000, N2,000, and N500, you can be able to convince some of these youths to join into this exercise which brings about money,” he said.

He, however, reiterated the commitment of the president to ending the criminal activity, while arguing that the hypothesis behind political motive as responsible for banditry is not true.
