Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old suspected armed robber after recovering a suspected human body part, firearms and other items believed to have been stolen during criminal operations.
The arrest was made during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, where officers intercepted an unregistered commercial shuttle bus carrying six occupants.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the command identified the suspect as Samson Onilewaji.
According to the statement, a search of the vehicle and its occupants led to the recovery of a suspected human right hand from the suspect, alongside two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, one Point of Sale (POS) terminal and five Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards.
The police said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect confessed to recently robbing three individuals of their personal belongings, including the recovered POS terminal and ATM cards.
The command said efforts are ongoing to identify and contact the victims to facilitate the return of the recovered property.
It added that investigators are also working to determine the identity of the owner of the recovered suspected human hand, the circumstances surrounding its possession and the purpose for which it was allegedly being kept.
According to the police, further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other suspects believed to be connected with the case.
The command said the suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling violent crime and other criminal activities across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting the police with timely and credible information capable of preventing crime and enhancing public safety.
