CAN orders tight security in churches as CMS marks 164 years of Christianity in S’East

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Anambra state chapter on Wednesday directed various church leaders to beef up security around church premises to protect the faithful from unwarranted attacks from religious extremists in parts of the state.

Chairman of CAN in the state, Ven. Joseph Nweke stated this during a church service to mark the advent of Christianity and to celebrate 164 years of Christianity in Igbo land, held in Onitsha the commercial town of the state

He said the directive was in view of the current onslaught against Christian churches in the country, by Islamic fundamentalists.

Nweke who is currently the Archdeacon of Onitsha Inland Town Archdeaconry of the Anglican church expressed joy that apart from bringing us the good news about Jesus Christ, the advent of Christianity in Igbo land has brought education, development, and other good things that are sustaining us today.

Also, former Provost of the Anglican Diocese on the Niger, Venerable Emma Ekpunobi; the Sub-Dean of Anglican Diocese on the Niger, Venerable Samuel Ezewudo and the Diocesan Accountant, Venerable Francis Orah, in their remarks commended the early Europeans for bringing Christianity to our people at a time our forefathers were killing twins, doing all kinds of ritual sacrifices and above all languishing in illiteracy.

They advised Christians to always remain faithful and loyal to God and His only son, Jesus Christ our Lord and savior, adding that as Christians, we must strive to convert souls and lead exemplary lives at all times and at the same time be agents of change.
