Is bandits’ attack on NDA an embarrassment?

Well, I want to state that the attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) is a bold statement from the bandits to instil fear and panic in the general public. If bandits could attack an established military institution like NDA, then how safe are the civilians? Considering an interview I watched recently on the attack, it shows clearly how unserious we are with security for the last six years. This same interview shows how some members of this society are practically sponsors of this menace. The fact that some of our intelligent people are aware of these people and can’t make arrests, also shows how culpable and unserious the authorities are to ending this threat called insecurity.

The truth is that the government is not committed to ending this threat. In truth, this is not the first time we are experiencing this kind of ugly scene. There have been attacks on various schools and the government cannot claim ignorant of such targets. Now, the attack on the NDA seems to be the most embarrassing. That is to tell you we are not even ready to end this. There is no commitment on the side of the government because kidnapping has been turned into a business. With what happened in NDA, I am beginning to lose hope in the leadership of this country. They will always say that they are on top of the situation and at the end of the day, the case will die like that. Nobody will know how it ends. It has happened in states such as Plateau, Kaduna, Yobe, Katsina and Zamfara. Everywhere, the kidnapping of students has become the order of the day. What has the federal government done to curtail all these? I think that the government’s only achievement is the closure of schools. And when you go back to the schools, there is no adequate security. We feel if you are in NDA you are secured, now they have penetrated, there is a lot to ponder about this development.

This government actually does not care about security in the country. They only care about their well being and will only ensure they and their families are well secured. The insecurity in the country is not going to end so soon. I believe some people are benefiting from it. I mean the more they benefit from it, the more it affects affect the economy. This is so because investors will not come to invest, especially as the country is not secured, and the government is not doing anything seriously to stop it. Is this the first time officers are dying? The worst has happened and will still happen. The government is not ready to do its job and protect the country. They are only after their selfish desires. We don’t even have a government for me. This is the worst government so far. Citizens should just be careful and trust God for total protection.

I think the federal government has actually taken no serious step in ending insecurity in Nigeria. It is very obvious that the government is joking if this is what it means to tackle this challenge that Nigeria has faced for over 10 years. There are no concentrated efforts in tackling this menace that has destroyed so many lives and property all around the country so the government needs to do much more. They should stop being defensive the government needs to take the offensive side they need to go after this bandit, after this terrorist and prosecute them or do whatever it is to end this menace that is facing the nation. Instead of pampering the terrorist and creating avenues for them to enrich themselves that is highly ridiculous. I believe that the government knows what to do just like was already mentioned yesterday the government knows these people they know where they are hiding, they know the location. These people use SIM to communicate where did they register these sims from? something is missing somewhere so I think the government knows what to do if they are really serious about tackling insecurity. How do you tell those who are actually the planners of the insecurity to end insecurity? It doesn’t work that way the people actually in government are the ones making it happen someone said something one time that if terrorism last for more than a day, know that the government has a hand in it. In my opinion, it is left to the citizens right now to rise up and say enough is enough.”

Looking at it, it shows that the government is not doing anything. If bandits can attack NDA, then where else can they not hit? For me, the NDA attack reveals that something is seriously wrong with our security architecture. The authorities keep promising that they will end insecurity in the land, but we have yet to see the proof. I have a feeling that these bandits are being sponsored by politicians. If not, I find the whole situation embarrassing. Indeed, if you want to end something, all you need would be a good strategy and the willingness to execute it. If the government is really willing to fight insecurity, it would have achieved something long ago.

It still baffles me how the bandits/gunmen, I don’t even know how to classify them, carried out the operation. I still can’t believe how they found their way into NDA, a place of high-quality training, kidnapped officers and killed them. This shows that nowhere is safe again, even the Aso Rock, the seat of authority in the country, is not safe, and the government is not seriously worried about it. Look at the killings happening in Jos, the government is also not doing anything seriously to end the menace. It is very unfortunate and painful, but no matter what we say or do, nothing can be done, life still goes on and continues and there is no point talking because we have been doing that before. If the government wants to do anything, they would have done it since before now.
