FCT Minister reinforces partnership with JICA

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reiterated the FCT Administration’s commitment to fostering a fruitful partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

At a meeting held yesterday in Abuja, Wike welcomed Yuzurio Susumu, the Chief Representative of JICA in Nigeria, and expressed confidence in the continued growth of their relationship.

He reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to achieving mutual goals for the benefit of the people.

Drawing from his extensive experience as the former Minister of State for Education, Wike commended JICA for its significant contributions to enhancing education quality and access across Nigeria. He particularly appreciated JICA’s commitment to extending its efforts to the FCT.

He cited initiatives such as the Abuja urban master plan approved in 2019 as examples of their impactful collaboration.

Highlighting JICA’s broad scope of activities spanning various sectors nationwide, the minister praised the organisation’s solid relationship with Nigeria.

He emphasised its commendable work in agriculture, nutrition promotion, and maternal health training.

Assuring JICA of the FCT’s unwavering commitment to sustaining their partnership, Wike underscored the importance of completing ongoing projects, especially water-related initiatives, within scheduled timeframes.

He pledged the FCT Administration’s dedication to fulfilling its obligations and aligning with JICA’s support.

While expressing confidence in JICA’s capacity to deliver on its promises, Wike urged further collaboration with the organisation to achieve more for the people of the FCT.

He stressed the administration’s readiness to cooperate closely with JICA, expressing optimism on the growth of their relationship.

The Minister proposed expanding JICA’s teacher training programs beyond the FCT, with a particular focus on science and Mathematics education, demonstrating the administration’s eagerness to continue partnering with JICA in critical areas for educational advancement.

In his earlier remarks, Mr Yuzurio Susumu, Chief Representative of JICA in Nigeria, reiterated the agency’s commitment to capacity building for FCT staff and promising young individuals.
