NAS donates educational materials to Army school in Lagos

As part of activities to mark this year’s International Day of Education, the Hawkins Deck of the National Association of Seadogs at the weekend donated educational materials to the management, staff, and students of Command Secondary School in Ipaja, Lagos State.
Items donated include 30 sets of laboratory stools, notebooks, umbrellas, and sets of electric blenders for outstanding teachers in the fields of science, art, and commercial studies.
The organisation also presented best staff awards to Mr Akalekor Aju (Mathematics Department); Mrs Adedola Deborah Oyetoro: (Nigerian Languages Department); and Mrs Faith Folaji, (Social Sciences/Business Studies Department), for their dedication to service delivery.
Speaking during the presentation of the items to the school, the Cap’n of Hawkins Deck in the Alimosho axis of Lagos State, Mr Jude Alaneme, said the organisation aimed to use the International Day of Education, which was marked on January 24, to increase awareness about the pivotal role of education in shaping a future characterised by peace and positive societal transformation.
Alaneme encouraged the management, staff, and students of the school to see themselves within the education community as vital to building lasting peace and development across the globe.
He also charged the students to be dedicated to their studies and shun all acts of discrimination, cultism, violence, and vices capable of bringing shame to the nation.
He said, “The National Association of Seadogs (NAS), Pyrates Confraternity (PC), aims to achieve several objectives in observing the International Day of Education. These include increasing awareness about the pivotal role of education in shaping a future characterized by peace and positive societal transformation.
“Additionally, NAS/PC aims to target underprivileged sectors of society, promoting inclusivity and equal access to education to showcase the broader societal impact of education, beyond individual growth, and contribute to addressing issues like high crime rates, injustice, and economic difficulties by advocating for universal access to education as a fundamental right.
“The event serves as an opportunity to underscore the progressive nature of education and its potential to bring about positive change at both individual and societal levels.”
Receiving the items, the Commandant of the Command Secondary School in Ipaja, Lt. Col C.B Obida, commended the organisation for the gesture.
“We would respond to the gesture via a letter that will be written to the organisation very soon,” he added.
