Appeal Court Verdict: Orbih calls for unity in PDP

The South-South National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, has described the Court of Appeal judgment affirming the earlier ruling against the party’s disputed convention in Ibadan as a victory for democracy and the rule of law.

In a statement issued on Monday, Orbih welcomed the decision of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria, Abuja Division, delivered on March 9, 2026, which upheld the earlier ruling of the Federal High Court of Nigeria on the controversial November 15, 2025 Ibadan convention.

He said the judgment reaffirmed the importance of due process and the need for political parties to strictly adhere to their constitutions and the provisions of the Electoral Act in the conduct of their internal affairs.

Orbih added that the ruling further strengthens the legitimacy of the party’s National Caretaker Working Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed as Chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as Secretary.

The PDP chieftain urged party members and litigants involved in the matter to put aside their differences and work towards reconciliation.

According to him, the judgment provides another opportunity for members of the party to unite and reposition the PDP for future political challenges.

Orbih called on leaders and stakeholders across the country to seize the moment to strengthen the party’s structures and restore it to what he described as its rightful place as a strong and credible political platform for Nigerians.

He maintained that the Peoples Democratic Party remains a formidable political force capable of providing responsible leadership and a viable alternative for the progress and stability of the country.
