House of Reps Ad hoc Committee seeks support of military

The House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee on International
Boundary Dispute between Cameroon and Nigeria is seeking the support and cooperation of the Nigerian military in carrying out its assignment.

Chairperson of the Committee, and member representing Langtang North, Langtang South Federal Constituency of Plateau State, Hon Beni Lar appealed for the support and cooperation of the Nigerian military, when she paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), Abuja.

Hon. Lar, who led her committee members to DHQ, noted that the establishment of the Ad hoc Committee, followed a motion on the case of displacement of citizens in the Boki Local Government area of Cross River State by Cameroonian authorities.

She said the House resolved to constitute an ad hoc Committee to investigate and assess the case for a thorough understanding of the situation and to ensure maximum security for the disputed territory.

The Director, of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur
Gusau, in a statement, said that while commiserating with the CDS on the recent loss of military personnel in Imo state, the Chairperson noted that the committee is also mandated to ensure maximum security is in place in the disputed areas.

Hon Lar also commended the CDS and Armed Forces of Nigeria over the significant improvement of security within the period he assumed command as Chief of Defence Staff.

The CDS, General CG Musa, while speaking during the meeting, pledged to provide adequate security and logistics support to the committee.

Gen. Musa applauded the National Assembly for its continued support of the Armed Forces, particularly in the area of appropriation.

He noted that although the job given to the committee is daunting, he expressed his confidence in the ability of the personalities involved to do a thorough job.
