By Victor Ofure Osehobo, Benin

The Edo State Government has said that the 24-hour (round-the-clock) curfew imposed in the state on October 19, 2020 subsists and is active till further notice.

In a statement, by Mr Crusoe Osagie, Special Adviser, Media and Communication Strategy to the Edo State Governor, it said, October 20, 2020, everyone is expected to remain indoors.

“Security agencies have been deployed to the streets to ensure full compliance and anyone found contravening the directive will be dealt with according to the law.

” Parents and guardians are urged to restrain their children, youths and wards from flouting the order, as security agencies will not spare any errant individual”

Recall the curfew was imposed on Monday, October 19, when the #ENDSARS protests turned violent, leading to two jailbreaks and the burning down of at least five police stations in Benin.

Nigerian Correctional authorities are yet to confirm the total number of inmates released to the streets, as they say investigations are still ongoing.

Meanwhile residential apartments of many Correctional officials  near Oko prison were attacked by armed hoodlums who carted away valuable items like mobile devices, TV and decoders on Tuesday morning.

A victim pleading anonymity said, “When they came to free the prisoners during the day, we locked ourselves in our homes. But early this morning many houses in this barracks were attacked. We just ran away when we heard them marching into the barracks”.

“Everyone is exposed right now. We are the mercy of God. They even ate the food in out pots and carried raw food stuff like rice, beans and garri”

But the Edo state government has promised commitment to maintaining law and order and protecting lives and property in the state, urging all citizens and residents to obey the directives for the collective good of all.
