Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has rejected his appointment as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ward Congress Committee for the 2024 Edo gubernatorial election.
Makinde made his decision known in a letter dated 2nd of February, 2023 and addressed to the National Working Committee of the PDP.
ThisNigeria reports that the ward congresses were scheduled to pick the flagbearer of the PDP in the 2024 Edo Governorship election.
However, Makinde cited late information as one of the reasons for his decision.
The Oyo Governor also expressed concerns over some irregularities with the process, particularly the list of electoral officers appointed for the exercise.
He cited the appointment of the Edo State Assembly Speaker as the electoral officer for his local government, describing it as being against the principles of equity and justice.
He also stated that the aspirants had reached out to him, saying that the “exercise will not be fair”.

Meanwhile, the aspirants also addressed a letter to the PDP NWC over the list of electoral officers for the exercise.
The letter dated February 3rd was signed by , Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, Anslem Ojezua and Felix Akhabue, Martin Uhomibhi, Hajia Hadizat Umoru, Ms Omosede Igbinedion, Dr Osaro Onaiwu and Arthure Esene.
The aspirants lamented that the list of the monitoring officers for the process lacked legitimacy, adding that they were contrary to the agreement reached between them and the PDP NWC.
ThisNigeria reports that the 2024 Edo governorship election is scheduled to hold on 21st September, 2024.
