Sowore faults Tinubu’s trip to St. Lucia

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing state visit to Saint Lucia.
In a post on his social media pages on Tuesday, the politician described it as a “shameful trip”, claiming the president abandoned a burning nation of over 200 million people.
His words, “Talking about frivolities and mediocrity —@officialabat Tinubu abandoned a burning nation of over 200 million people to play poker in St. Lucia, a Caribbean island with fewer people than the smallest local government area in Lagos!
“At a time when Nigeria is being torn apart by economic hardship, insecurity, and institutional collapse, this shameful trip is nothing but a smokescreen — and now, Nigerians know it. The health-related cover-up is unraveling.”
Earlier, the presidency had defended the trip, saying the visit is rekindling Nigeria’s ancestral and strategic ties with the Caribbean nation and the wider CARICOM bloc.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said, “In the wake of some Nigerians’ misguided, mischievous, and uninformed comments regarding President Bola Tinubu’s historic state visit to Saint Lucia, it is necessary to clarify the purpose of the visit”.
